Thund3rbolt
Just kickin around a few ideas and came accross an article on insanleymac that got me thinking.http://www.insanelymac.com/custom-bios-allows-for-mac-on-your-without-dsdt/ Basically a way to dispose of the need for a dsdt altogether. Just some food for thought.
Administrators Bronxteck Posted December 13, 2010 Administrators Share Posted December 13, 2010 That article is based on Catri's BIOS which he no longer supports as of this week http://cartri.net/blog/ but before it can be done you have to have a perfected DSDT to inject into a BIOS package if not you can Kill the machine. Our BIOS chips are soldered to the mother board and are not user replaceable. But yes that would be optimal in the future
Administrators Bronxteck Posted December 13, 2010 Administrators Share Posted December 13, 2010 A little reading material. pretty interesting http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/13358-How-to-Use-New-Phoenix-Bios-Mod-Tool-to-Modify-Phoenix-Dell-Insyde-EFI-Bios-Files
Thund3rbolt
Yup, sucks to brick laptops!! A lot of mobos are surface mounted bioses as well now too. If we get enough donations maybe we could just buy the bare mobos off ebay for d620, 430 etc and have the mobos sent out to mod the bioses to socket. That way we could totally perfect it with no risk since a hot swap is all it takes to fix. I know this is far flung future but something to think about for sure. btw - Good link BronxTeck - lots of good stuff there.
Administrators Leon Posted December 13, 2010 Administrators Share Posted December 13, 2010 I guess the best way to go here would be to simply create a brand new bios update.. however, this is a bit out in the future, since we dont even have a 100% stable dsdt yet
